John Kruesi was born on July 17, 1864, in Zürich, Switzerland. He was a skilled machinist and mechanic who worked for Thomas Edison's Menlo Park Laboratory. Kruesi was instrumental in helping Edison invent and develop many of his most significant inventions, including the phonograph, the electric pen, and the incandescent light bulb.
Kruesi was also involved in the development of Edison's motion picture camera, the kinetoscope. The kinetoscope was one of the first devices to show motion pictures, and Kruesi's contributions were critical to its success.
Kruesi was known for his inventiveness and his ability to solve complex engineering problems. He was one of the trusted members of Edison's team and worked with him for over 20 years. Kruesi died on June 2, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey, at the age of 76.
